The story is of a maintenance man played by actor Paul Giamatti who discovers a woman played by Bryce Dallas Howard in his apartment buildings pool. Lady in the Water reminds us of the magic that we left behind as we grew out of childhood. It shows us that we all have a place in life, no matter how trivial we think it is.
